Per The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, Fisch will receive a seven-year deal worth $7.75 million per year from Washington.
When he took over for Kevin Sumlin in 2021, Fisch inherited a Wildcats team that went 0-5 in 2020 and had lost 12 straight games dating back to 2019. The 47-year-old led the program to steady improvement in his three seasons in Tucson. This past season, the Wildcats went 10-3 including a win over Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl and a No. 14 ranking in the final College Football Playoff rankings. It was Arizona's first 10-win season since 2014 and just the fourth in school history.
Washington will be Fisch's second head coaching gig in a coaching career that began in 1997 when he was a defensive coordinator at P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School in Florida as an undergraduate student. He was an assistant coach for numerous college and NFL teams, including offensive coordinator stints at Minnesota, Miami, UCLA and with the Jacksonville Jaguars, before becoming Arizona’s head coach.
At Washington, Fisch will lead the program into its first season in the Big Ten. He replaces Kalen DeBoer, who left Washington to replace Nick Saban at Alabama after leading the Huskies to a 14-1 season that culminated with a national championship game loss to Michigan on Monday.
Fisch becomes the first Arizona head football coach to leave for another college head coaching job since Larry Smith in 1986, when Smith took over at USC.
