Former Ohio State and current Kentucky running back Chip Trayanum broke his hand in preseason camp this week, according to Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio. Trayanum will miss three to four weeks as a result of the fracture, a timetable that could force him to miss the Wildcats' first two games.

Trayanum transferred to Kentucky this offseason after two years at Ohio State and two years at Arizona State. As a member of the Buckeyes, Trayanum played linebacker and running back, thriving more in the latter role than the former. In 2023, Trayanum was one of the Buckeyes' featured backs behind TreVeyon Henderson, appearing in 12 games and collecting 373 yards and three touchdowns on 85 carries.

This fall, Trayanum will lead a Kentucky backfield that also features NC State transfer Demie Sumo-Karngbaye, Jamarion Wilcox and freshmen Jason Patterson and Tovani Mizell.

Kentucky went 7-6 last season and fell to Clemson, 38-35, in the Gator Bowl. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Wildcats have a projected win total of 6.5 for a schedule that includes No. 1 Georgia, No. 6 Ole Miss (in University, Mississippi), No. 15 Tennessee (in Knoxville, Tennesse) and No. 4 Texas (in Austin, Texas), among other marquee opponents.
