The Ivy League Tournament is canceled, and so are all of its spring sports.
In an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the conference is canceling both the men's and women's basketball tournaments and will give regular season champions Yale and Princeton the automatic bids to the men's and women's NCAA Tournaments, respectively.
“We understand and share the disappointment with student-athletes, coaches and fans who will not be able to participate in these tournaments,” Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris said in a statement on Tuesday. “Regrettably, the information and recommendations presented to us from public health authorities and medical professionals have convinced us that this is the most prudent decision.”
On Wednesday, the Ivy League went a step further, choosing to cancel all spring sports through the remainder of the academic year. “Individual institutions will decide whether or not winter teams and student-athletes who have qualified for postseason play will participate,” per Wednesday's statement.
