Old life. New life.

After almost 60 years on Ohio State's campus, the Bier Stube will cease operations the weekend of Sept. 21, the bar announced in a Facebook post on Monday. According to Shahid Meighan of The Columbus Dispatch, a Chicago-based company named Harbor Bay Ventures plans to replace the Stube with America's second-largest wood-framed structure in 2025.

The apartment complex will be Harbor Bay's second wood-based project in Ohio. Two years ago, the company opened Cleveland's INTRO complex, two timber-framed buildings nine and 11 stories tall. The apartment complex Harbor Bay has planned for the Bier Stube would be the tallest of new structures developed on North High Street and Lane Avenue near Ohio State's campus.

According to The Dispatch, Harbor Bay stated in its proposal that the building would be shorter than the new 26-story Ohio State Wexner Medical Center building, as well as both Lincoln and Morrill Towers. In April, the University Area Commission approved some of Harbor Bay's plans for the building, including reducing the height to 15 stories.

The Dispatch also reported the apartment complex would remove the 14-0 Express convenience store and Yau's Chinese Bistro in addition to the Bier Stube.
