As a huge music fan, man, this one hits hard. Steve as an artist did some of the most intense, gnarly stuff out there in alternative rock with bands like Big Black and Shellac.

As a recording engineer, though, he had his hands in countless records that I love. Nirvana's In Utero, The Pixies' Surfer Rosa, Low's Things We Lost in the Fire, Electrelane's The Power Out, Slint's Tweez, The Jesus Lizard's Goat, The Wedding Present's Seamonsters, The Breeders' Pod, the list goes on and on.

61 is too young. RIP to a real one.
