With the PAC-12 coming back and playing a 7 game schedule, it got me thinking about what would be the best way to handle a CFP this year, at least hopefully, since there are going to be unequal amount of games played, possibly even within a conference. This seems the perfect year to let all conferences that are playing send their champion to the playoff.
I believe there are 8 "legit" conferences playing football (B1G, ACC, Big 12, PAC-12, SEC, American, C-USA, Sun Belt) I'm going to exclude the Big South since they are definitely at the bottom of the non-power 5's.
Let each conference determine who they will send to make up an 8 team playoff. It's hard enough in most years for a committee to come up with the top 4 teams, so it will be a cluster for them to figure out if a team who played 6 or 7 games and is undefeated is actually better than a team that goes 8-1 or 9-1.
