Ohio State checks in at No. 2 in the first College Football Playoff rankings of 2024.
When I was watching this week, I kept getting the feeling that the game itself was flying by, but the total time felt the same. "Ohio State game at 3:30 pm, the game was over right around 7 pm" is a sentence that you could have said at any point in the past few years and that it was just the same this week, even though there it felt like there was fewer possessions and it felt like you could blink and miss an entire series.
I did a Google search and found an interesting breakdown of this to share:

tl;dr: Total plays in FBS are down about 3%, but the average time is only down about 1%. If we're talking practically, there's no meaningful difference between a game taking 3 hrs 25 minutes and 3 hrs 27 minutes; those are effectively identical in terms of the time commitment (both for us watching it and network slotting in broadcasts).
