I don't pretend to be a coaching expert, but the recent speculation about Alford's job security after all these years got me thinking about the importance of that position. Most fans can name the "biggest" names in cfb for any other position group except possibly TE, and I think there much more for TE's to master as far as blocking technique AND running routes. Can you name a highly sought-after RB coach? It just seems like their job is so much less technical, even including being responsible for pass blocking compared to everyone else. My point is recruiting is what separates them. I'm not attacking or defending Alford; but I think if he's replaced it wouldn't move the needle much. jmho
