It’s almost exactly two months since this absolutely devastating finding by the B1G Commissioner in his Notice of Disciplinary Action: “I have concluded that the University engaged in the impermissible scheme resulting in unfair games on unequal terms and compromised player safety. Nothing offends the integrity of competition more than attempting to gain an unfair advantage through impermissible means.”
This finding still stands.
Michigan’s championship moment last night was already unequivocally tainted in a significant way by this determination by the B1G Commissioner—one that Michigan failed to overturn in a court challenge notwithstanding its initial claims that it would not let such a determination stand.
And, to borrow from the great Winston Churchill: “Now, this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”
I, for one, am willing to be patient for whatever additional disclosures are revealed and to await whatever penalties the NCAA seeks to impose.
I don’t think Michigan fans will ultimately be celebrating the outcome associated with this season.
