When clock hit 0:00 one week ago I felt like I was going to be for a long period of being angry and upset at the fact that UM had managed to avoid every consequence and walk away with the national title. Yet, to my utter surprise, I really don’t feel that way at all and instead I kind of feel a sense of amusement at just how pathetic the whole thing is.

Living in the Detroit area, I’ve seen the billboards that say “National Champions.” I’ve had to listen to guys like Jon Jansen, who has always been very vocal about how steroid users are cheaters and should be punished for tarnishing the game, basically say that UM’s kind of cheating was ok. I’ve seen all the social media posts from family and friends, who are normally intelligent people, raving about how great it is to be a Wolverine. I’ve seen all the gaslighting bullshit comments about how this team overcame such “adversity” and didn’t let others bring them down.

And, through it all, I’ve decided “Fuck ‘em.”

If they’re so desperate for their team to have this success that they’re going to create some kind of alternate reality where they’re the true victims who have defied the odds and, through the fearless leadership of Jim Harbaugh, have slain all their foes and returned goodness and righteousness to the would of college football, then let them live in their deluded little world.

For decades these sanctimonious assholes puffed out their chests and proclaimed that they were some beacon of purity in the world of college football that ran a “clean program” did things the “right way.” Well, now we know that not only is that complete bullshit, but they’re just as much of a “win at all costs” mentality as any other fanbase and, in most cases, are probably worse

For all their digs at OSU’s past transgressions, I seem to recall that OSU leadership has fired not one, not two, but THREE of its most successful football coaches of all time when they broke various rules. Meanwhile, UM has steadfastly refused to remove a statue and the name of their football office after Bo Schembechler was strongly implicated by many, including some former players, in covering up decades of sexual assault, and they’ve elevated Jim Harbaugh to icon status despite the fact he’s been involved with hinky shit from day one, has been suspended twice in the same season, and is now looking to flee the ship before it gets crushed by NCAA sanctions.

I’ve always believed the UM as an institution, as well as their fanbase, are the most hypocritical and delusional in the entire nation and now there is proof beyond any doubt. While OSU has repeatedly proved that football does not rule everything and the school will, in fact, sometimes make the right decisions as painful as they may be to the program’s on field success, UM has shown that there is almost no bridge too far for their program to cross as long as the wins keep coming.

So I hope all you UM fans enjoyed your little parade, which several players bolted within 24 hours of, and your canonization of Jim Harbaugh as a true “Michigan Man” as he’s well on his way out the door to the NFL, and all the other fluff that goes with the most hollow national title of the past 80 years or so. You sold your soul for a few moments of glory that most others saw for the sham it was and, sooner or later, it’s going to all come crashing down and you’re going to be left standing around with a crappy team, a ton of sanctions, and no moral high ground to stand on naked and exposed as the pathetic hypocrites you are for everyone to see. Just like what happened to your basketball program in the 1990s

Enjoy. You earned it.
