As we wait for the regular news week to begin tomorrow, here is a little holiday reading for you from the archive of The Oklahoman:
"I don't feel sorry for those people who get caught and put on probation," Michigan's outspoken Bo Schembechler said in a 1989 speech at the American Football Coaches Association. "I don't feel sorry for people who get the death penalty. We have rules and regulations we have to operate under, and when you break those rules, you must pay the price."
"... We as coaches cannot afford to operate any other way than with honesty and integrity. That's your job, and if you can't win legitimately that way, maybe you shouldn't coach."
"I must obey all the rules of the NCAA and the Big Ten. Michigan has never been on probation. Michigan must never be on probation, and it must not break the rules. We're not gonna do it!"
Whoops.
Read the whole thing here. PLUS, stick around for a bonus take on Deion Sanders! (Some things never change.)
