Attention Ohio State Wrestling fans we have a total of 18 Buckeye wrestlers on their journey to make the world team this weekend. If you have Flowrestling you can see every match, below I have listed the wrestlers and their weight class.
Joey McKenna, Kollin Moore are expected to be in the championship matches and both can win. I am excited to see how Sammy does and the biggest sleeper is going to be Carson Kharchla... He is an absolute stud in FS wrestling. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes first or second place.
In the U20 matches I expect to see first place by Bouzakis and Mendez we can't forget about Seth Shumate he is a stud at freestyle as well.
In Greco I forget which one of the Koontz brothers is a bad ass but one of them could take first place and I would be remiss not to point out 51 year old Rulon Gardner is making a comeback and going for worlds and Olympic titles again.
Even though he isn't Buckeye royalty, I am going to be rooting for him all the way. He took down the evil empire when he beat the best russia ever had to offer in the 2000 Olympics. Karelin was 286 and 3% body fat and Rulon was the opposite, the only six pack he ever saw, was one holding beer, but he did it and his story after the gold medal makes this journey much more special.
He had almost died in the wilderness in 02 from hyperthermia and lost a toe to frostbite then was in a plane crash in 07 where he had to swim for an hour in 44 degree water and spent the night without shelter...amazing he didn't get frostbite again. after the crash he ballooned up to 474 lbs in 2011 and after all that he has gotten back to his fighting weight and wants to take on adam coon and take him out which gives us another reason to root for Rulon!! down with the wrestlers from tsun!
