As I mentioned in the preview, there's not a lot to be learned from this game, except that games like this mean nothing long term. Ohio State was always going to win, Detroit Mercy never really had a chance, and that is that. How the Buckeyes arrived at 14-4 is a bit intriguing. On both ends.

The game started out with a ho hum Buckeye 3-0 run. Blake Eiland scored, Garrett Haas punished a soft Titans defense from X, and it looked like a blowout.

Then Detroit Mercy scored 3 straight to tie it up. Freak outs abounded. Only for Ohio State to obliterate Detroit for 6 straight goals, to take a 9-3 halftime lead. And the Buckeyes didn't look back.

Ohio State should have probably had 19 to 21 goals this game, but Richters, the keeper for Detroit, had 16 saves in a loss. The Titans are bad on offense and at faceoff, but really good in net. The defense is dodgy.

Ohio State also could have easily made this game a lot closer, if Caleb Fyock hadn't been in goal. Fyock had 10 saves, and played a huge role in Detroit only scoring 4.

Ohio State showed huge gaps in their defensive rotation all day long. The on ball defense was pretty good. But guys were sliding and had no fill behind them. Or just lost their man in the wash. It was a stark reminder of Saturday.

The other big factor was Ohio State dominated Detroit Mercy at faceoff. Buckeye FOGOs got 16 of 22 faceoffs, more than doubling their percentage from Saturday. That's unsustainable, but a really good showing against this poor of competition.

Overall, about as boring a game as you can get. Ohio State played well enough to win as it should, and the Titans had nothing left after tying up the game at 3. We are on to Cleveland State this Saturday.

Go Bucks!
