COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 8/10 Ohio State men's hockey team downed No. 11 Michigan, 2-1 in overtime, Thursday in Value City Arena in Columbus.
After a scoreless first period, Davis Burnside opened the scoring with a power play goal for the Buckeyes in the second. Michigan responded and the teams went into the lockerroom tied at one. Neither team was able to score in the third, sending the game to overtime. Just 1:22 into the extra session, Buckeye blueliner Williams Smith scored to lift the home team to the win. Ohio State was outshot, 27-25, in the game and Buckeye goalie Logan Terness made 26 saves in 61:22, including on a breakaway in overtime. Ohio State was 2-for-2 on the penalty kill in the game, with 1:11 of a 5x3 chance when the game was tied.
