WOW. Someone made the comment that Nick Myers, coaching for his job, is better than Saban last week. And hell, that may be right. Ohio State, somehow, dominated 2-time defending champion Notre Dame in just about all facets, except the score. Ohio State shut down the Notre Dame offense, holding the attackmen to just 3 goals and the Irish to just 26% shooting on the day. Thomas Ricciardelli, the freshman keeper for Notre Dame, kept this game close, saving 20 shots to keep the game from being over at half, and at the end of the third.

Ohio State couldn't shoot worth a lick, but still managed to get a final goal with 7 seconds remaining to go into South Bend, generally a nightmare to play in, and win. Not just compete. Win. And the implications couldn't be more massive.

I said at the beginning of the season that Ohio State couldn't lose 2 of 3 games against Virginia, Notre Dame, and Denver. The Buckeyes, after utterly crapping the bed against Utah, have won 7 straight games. They have beaten Virginia and Notre Dame, the bluest of blue bloods, in back to back weeks. And suddenly, we are talking about matchups in April.

Ohio State still has work to do. But a loss to Denver would mean next to nothing. A 3-2 Big Ten record, with a single win in the B1G tournament, gets the Buckeyes into the national tournament. Again. This is what winning feels like, and it is glorious.

Realistically, Ohio State's offense still is far below acceptable. But the defense has stepped up so much that it's impossible to ignore. Yes, the Notre Dame middies ripped apart the Buckeyes defensive midfield unit. But that's because the attackmen, one of the best units in the country, were held down in a shallow puddle all afternoon, with the briefest gaps of air keeping them twitching.

Caleb Fyock, clearly, is a generational talent. Ohio State's strategy of throwing pure athletes at SSDM is paying off. And the offense has done just enough to get some insane wins. The future can wait, this year is shaping up to be a pretty special one.

And no, I claim nothing in regards to this week. I definitely didn't think the Buckeyes had it in them. Being wrong never felt so good. Now there's one more tuneup against Denver, and the Big Ten starts.

Let's go into Happy Valley and ruin the Nittany Lions' year.
