Comparing the Officiating to OSU game and MSU Game
Bottomline, winning is hard in this conference. It becomes harder when officials essentially spot a TD (or take one away) to your opponent's benefit. OSU was fortunate for a correct Illegal touching call, Michigan lost 1 TD (and likely 2) AND lost last bit of momentum with a horrific PI non-call.
(Also, a snap infraction for OSU could've been a turnover if not called, not sure what that rule is, but was interesting)
Cue the downvotes here...
OSU Gripes
- First off... even from the days of Vernon Gholston, it seems B1G Officials are content with letting OLmen hold high end pass rushers. It happens, I'm perplexed and flummoxed, but it's just part of this conference.
- Yes, The non holding calls allowed a end of 1st Half FG for PSU. It's not the last time holding won't be called on this all-star DL.
- Steele Chambers Ejection
- Even if unnecessary roughness wasn't called on Steele, he's still booted for targeting.
- It's the proper call on a horrible horrible rule.
- Blame the rule, not the officials... He aimed low on the QB, his momentum already committed to the tackle, and the QB went low late in the play...
THAT ILLEGAL TOUCHING CALL
- With ~6 minutes left and down by 6, PSU had a TD removed via blatant illegal touching.
- Yes, Lovett did step out of bounds on his own volition and wasn't touched by Simon until he was well out of bounds
- The officials conferred and made the right call without the virtue of replay.
- Botching the call gives PSU the lead.
- It could've cost OSU the game and the talking pundits would've expounded on 'OSU had chances to win and they blew it.'
- Instead, OSU gets the ball back, goes up by 9 and game is essentially over.
THAT Scoop and Score
- Yes, proper call. It was reviewed for a while though.
- But, we were worried they would've ruled incomplete pass as Clifford's arm came forward before the fumble.
- No, it wasn't close... but, the officials took their time on replay and got the right call. (CFB's seen bad overturns in its days)
- And Jerron Cage's "40 yard dash" will live in the twitterverse in perpetuity.
MSU vs. Michigan...
- That Fumbled TD by MSU
- early in the game, the RB seemed to fumble right before the endzone.
- I'll admit, this was very close and likely not 'clear and obvious' in replay to overturn.
- Call on field stands for either call... unfortunately for Harbaughites, it was a TD, not Touchback
- early in the game, the RB seemed to fumble right before the endzone.
- That Strip Sack TD Overturn
- This was a bad overturn... very very bad... Clemson 2019 bad
- The Refs overturned, but there wasn't a clear angle to prove their case.
- While us Anti-Michiganers will support the overturn, it wasn't clear and obvious. Every camera angle on the ball with the 'shin going down' was masked If this happened to OSU on a loss, you'd be on my side.
- The 4th and 3 with game on the line (down 4)
- The WR was bumped by TWO Defenders and no PI called...
- Yes, Michigan should've won.
- They let MSU score 23 of last 26 points and the talking heads will lambast Harbaugh for losing yet again.
- They protect the ball better they win.
- BUT, if they won ugly with proper officiating, it would've been a 'gritty' win. Just like OSU's.

Another review decision goes Michigan State's way.
