Ohio State lands a post-Rose Bowl commitment from in-state cornerback Jakob Weatherspoon.
On 4th and less than a yard, Day called for a jet-sweep with Emeka Egbuka... which just blows my mind. Ask any defensive lineman and they will tell you the absolute hardest play to defend is a QB sneak with a yard to go. With the offensive line firing out, all the quarterback has to do is find the gap to either side of his center and lean forward.
I remember Tressel calling these slow motion run plays when he had Terrell Pryor at QB. The dude was 6'4" with a huge wingspan. All he had to do was snap the ball and stick his arm out and we would have gotten a yard and a half every time.
Ryan Day has forgotten more football than I will ever know, but this is one of those situations where I think he outsmarts himself. On 4rth & 1 the QB sneak, while unglamorous, is the effective and smart play. Use it!
