In watching the Texaa DPI call that was eventually corrected and overturned, its similarities to the OSU OPI call were uncanny.
On Smith's penalty, the see defensive back aggressively initiated the contact and Smith simply met him with equal strength. The back then lost his balance and fell away without Smith extending his arms to push off.
Result was OPI.
In Texas, the receiver sought out the contact with the defensive back, then peoceeded to extend his arms to push the defensive back. The defensive back was then called for DPI. There was no consideration by the referees to calling an OPI.
Interesting that they changed their judgement call to the correct call after all during the bottle throwing that the defensive back did not commit DPI.
I just found it very interesting that the offensive player sought out and initiated all the conact and then blatently pushed off extending his arms and the ref saw defensive pass interference and no OPI after what we saw the week before.
