Obviously referencing the Howard fumble that resulted in a touchback and a PSU ball.
Does anyone else think that fumbling into the end zone and oob should result in a loss of possession for the offense and an award of possession for the defense? The last team that had possession should maintain possession… as is the case for all other fumbles out of bounds. Of all the football rules this one seems imbalanced.
Suggestion for rule change: fumbling into the end zone and out of bounds results in a loss of down and a touchback BUT the offense retains the ball with remaining downs at the 20. It is then “x down and goal” at the 20. If the fumble occurred on 4th down the result is a touchback and the other team possesses the ball at the 20.
Thoughts?
