Here we are again my old friend. Both of us (I assume) are awake at 3am following another catastrophic loss. I have decided that as Sean Maguire told Will Hunting "It's not your fault"
buuuuttttt.........
-It's not your fault that your kicker missed two very makable kicks.....buuutttt you did give him a scholarship and have stuck with him after he has shown to be extremely shaky.
-It's not your fault that Carnell Tate let a perfect pass go right through his hands that would have been a first down......buuutttt you allowed the best player on the field (probably the country) to become irrelevant "because he was being double-teamed". I can't believe your opponent designed this amazing new defensive scheme. I am sure no coaching staff in the history of football has had to game plan and/or adjust to such sorcery.
-It's not your fault that the offensive line couldn't consistently open any holes to run the ball through.......buuuttt you allowed your play-caller to keep running into the brick wall without any sort of adjustments. Hit a big option type run early but never come back to it...check, have the qb pull the ball out with some RPO type options...nope, run some sort of miss direction or speed type plays with someone other than the rb....nope. Just keep your head down and run straight ahead. Oh, you have also let a guy continue to make a ton of money by under-recruiting, under-developing and under-preform for multiple seasons now.
-It's not you fault that after an incredible Caleb Downs interception your offense couldn't get any points buuuutttt..... again your play-calling guru/savior/mentor ran A FRICKING DRAW PLAY ON 3RD AND 10!!!!!!!
-It's not your fault that your punter booted a 30ish yard put when you needed him most buuuttt...... you did recruit him also and have stuck with him after multiple examples of his lack of ability to perform at the level needed and expected for a Championship caliber team.
These are just a few of the things that simply aren't your fault but yet somehow feel as if they kinda are. I am sure you will keep your job because it is so much easier to keep you than it is to replace you and congats on that. Just watch the money hit your account and keep doing what your doing because obviously this has become acceptable again. I swear I lived through the John Cooper era already but let's run it back. I am sure you can continue to do less with more and come-up small in big situations. Heck, with the full support of the Administration you may even get us old guys to forget all about John Cooper and that would be an accomplishment.
