Obviously I'm just as pissed off as everyone else about the loss over the weekend and I'm not saying it's ok to lose to michigan, but at the end of the day, we still have a shot at the national championship while they're headed off to nashville for the music city bowl. I would take our next game over theirs all day, every day 100% of the time.
Its silly to think a non-playoff team has any bragging rights whatsoever over a playoff team in any other sport, why should college football be any different? I'm sure there's been times the blue jackets beat the eventually stanley cup champion in the regular season, do you think anyone cared? Did the fans win a championship but sit around crying about a regular season loss to columbus?
The ohio state michigan rivalry only became a huge deal because of the stakes involved in those games. If those stakes don't really exist anymore, is the game really still as important? If neither team has the ability to ruin the other's national championship hopes any more, why should we still treat the game as if it does? People (myself included) have been acting like the season is over now, when we still have a playoff spot. Its just really silly when you think about it. No other sport, college or pros, would be like this. Would you care if your favorite nfl team lost their last regular season game but still made the playoffs? Sure it might ruin your afternoon for a couple hours but you would still be hyped for the playoffs.
Whether you like the new format or not, we should start adapting to the new playoff era. This isnt the 1960s where college football was a regional game and the rose bowl was the most important thing in the world. This is basically the nfl lite now and getting a spot in the playoffs should be the #1 goal for the regular season.
I know college football traditionalists won't like any of this, and I'm not saying I do either, but it's just something to think about. SEC teams have been losing to each other in the regular season during the 4 team cfp era and still winning the national championship and I dont think any of them are really caught up on the regular season games. Its all about who wins the national championship.
