I’ll start by saying that I know for many on here they will automatically disagree with the forum title and will continue to express their displeasure below. If that is you, go for it.
However, a thought that has been on my mind since Saturday and in light of Days press conference today I thought I would share for discussion.
I actually think Day makes many of the right changes when needed that turn out to be positive decisions. The main issue is that those changes only seem to come after a big loss which if that is your critique then that is fair. It is not exhaustive but below are few changes Day has made that I think the fan base would almost unanimously agree were good decisions and have improved the program/team.
- Hire Jim Knowles to correct bad defense
- Work with Jim Knowles to tweak defensive game plan to not allow big plays that occurred in Michigan games
- Made tweaks to how OSU pressures teams to get more sacks this season
- Give up play calling duties and bringing chip kelly into the program (even with Saturdays result)
- Firing Parker Fleming
- Getting transfer players like Caleb downs, Will Howard, Justin Fields, etc.
Are there things outside of this that still need to be done? 100%. However, I feel as if people sometimes get the idea that Day is asleep at the wheel when I don’t think that could be any farther from the truth. I think he knows what the issues are and I actually do have quite a bit of confidence in him to address those things moving forward.
Maybe that is optimism that stretches into the realm of being naive. If so, then oh well.
