Targeting--or Lack Thereof--in ASU/UT Game

I am trying to really enjoy the evisceration of the Ducks, but the end of the ASU/UT game is sticking in my craw. I feel sick for ASU fans, and just cannot fathom how that call was not made. I am also sick that it is not the lead story everywhere. ESPN main page is of course just championing UT's resilience and grittiness to pull it out in the face of the underdog's furious comeback. But this is an all time bad call (made by B1G refs shocker). How you can send this call to the video replay booth and find no targeting is just beyond me. It defies all explanation (no one has actually given one, btw). ASU should have had the ball 1st and 10 from the UT 37 yard line with 1:03 or so on the clock, with all the momentum in the world on their side. Not a guaranteed win, but I sure like their chances.

Instead they have to punt, and then UT's kicker Jayden Fielding Bert Auburn missed a 38 yarder to win the game. I think he actually did UT (and the completely inept referees) a favor in a way, because that miss, and the ensuing OT, help bury the egregious non-call further back in the game script than if Auburn had simply made the kick.

It really does make you wonder about fixing, or network-preferred outcomes. OSU-Texas will be a monster TV ratings game, while Oregon-Texas would have been not as good but still solid. Almost feels like the powers that be were petrified of a ASU-Oregon game that would have been a real ratings loser.

One of the worst calls I have ever seen, honestly.
