While Captain Jack 1000% deserves all the roses for his incredible effort on his game-sealing sack-scoop-score (and his performance over 60 minutes of the Cotton Bowl) to simply boil it down to one guy doing something incredible misses out on just how well our defense is playing as a unit.

Just take a look at the aerial view of that play:

The coverage downfield is tighter than two coats of pain.

While Quinn claims he thought he could get the pass off, I think that what he actually meant was that he was still waiting for a chance to throw the ball, and as it was fourth down (a do-or-die moment) he had to take a shot and heave the ball up rather than take a sack (which is the right thing to do, but he actually did the most unlikely but catastrophic thing by allowing a fumble). He was still holding onto the rock even with Jack barreling towards him like a freight train because there was absolutely nobody open.

What makes this play even more remarkable is that three of the four players in coverage aren't even cornerbacks. Sonny is guarding the RB, Caleb is on the inbreaking route, and the outside receiver is being doubled by Mathews and Hancock, I believe.

We are seeing a truly remarkable defense this season and are so lucky to be witnesses to it. These players are unbelievably talented and Jim Knowles is putting them in a position to absolutely dominate.
