The tweet below is completely insane, but now we can add yet another one. In 6 different games with the game in jeopardy, the defense on the field with the opposition getting to "Goal to Go" situation...
- Oregon trailing 22-28, 4th n goal at the 2, pass incomplete, no points
- Nebraska in Columbus after the bye week in the next game, knocking to take the lead 9-14, 4th n 2, 1 yard run, no points
- The very next week on the road, Penn St knocking trailing 13-20 at home, 4th n 1 with a chance to go to OT if they score, 4th n 1, pass incomplete, no points
- 4 weeks later, 10-10 in The Game, TCUN goes on a 15 yard drive in 9 minutes of clock, 77 yards to 1st n goal on the 3. Jack Sawyer INT, no points, giving them at least a chance to win, with 8 minutes left.
- Texas in playoff round 3, Texas trails by 7 and creates a 10 play drive... with just 2 minutes remaining, multiple 1st n goals due to penalties, almost identical to the Penn St situation, we all know what happens next... 7 POINTS THE OTHER WAY
- ND in the natty, Domers put together a 12 play 70 yard drive in the 4th after I thought the final would be 41-7 and then oh shit this is actually getting unsettling... what ultimately led to just delaying the inevitable by 7 minutes, Irish fail to get in 3x and decide to kick... MISSED FG, no points.
The team ultimately did lose 2 of these 6, but without these stops, those 2 games are further out of reach and demoralizing. If any of the wins had converted to losses because of the defense getting pushed around, I don't see how we are partying tonight.
Jim Knowles, these players, this defense overall, was LEGENDARY.
