1. The Game is no longer life and death. Yes, I want to beat those evil cheaters every year. Yes, when we overtake them in the all-time series, it will mean more to me than any national title. But who is feeling better now, the Michigan fane or the Ohio State fan?
2. Ohio State has demonstrated how to win with the new system. Recruit like a monster, keep a keen eye on the transfer portal, and manage your resources for a long, long season. I don't think anything was more critical than having two stud RBs to spread the workload over the entire season.
3. College football is too similar to the NFL model. No pro fan cares if their team beat their arch rival or won their division. In the NFL, it's all about that Super Bowl title. According to what everyone on the selection committee said, the newly expanded formular was designed to maintain the importance of the regular season. It did not. Now any premier program can absorb two losses and still at least have a shot at the title. Maybe that's how it should have always been, but the regular season took a massive hit regarding importance.
