A New Golden Era for Ohio State Football?

There are a lot of amazing stats in connection with the history of Ohio State football but perhaps the most fascinating one to me has long been the fact that, in its illustrious history, the Buckeyes have had a total of six perfect seasons—that is, six seasons with no losses and no ties.

What that illustrates, I think, is that, even with the great talent Ohio State has had over the years, slip-ups happen—slip-ups that have cost the Buckeyes a chance at a national title (and I’m sure we can all think of a handful or so of situations that have happened during the regular season in the past 30 years alone).

With the 12-team format—and possibly a 14-team or 16-team bracket down the road—there will seemingly be a lot more opportunities for Ohio State to capture a national championship.

Yes, that road of having to win four or three consecutive playoff games will be tougher than what transpired during the BCS era or the 4-team CFP era.

But the tradeoff of having a significantly increased chance of competing for a natty in an expanded playoff more than makes up for that for a team with Ohio State’s pedigree.

And that 30-plus-year drought prior to 2002 is highly, HIGHLY unlikely to ever be repeated.
