Should Davison Igbinosun Move to Safety?

As much as I appreciate Davison Igbinosun’s aggressive play style, I feel the Ohio State Buckeyes could benefit from a position change for the talented senior cornerback. The Union, New Jersey native, who transferred from Ole Miss, has shown flashes of brilliance. However, his tendency to draw penalties—whether it’s pass interference, holding, or grabbing receivers—has been a recurring issue.

Take, for example, his pass interference penalty on a third-and-19 against Notre Dame that extended a critical drive. Plays like these might have cost us a national title shot. While Tim Walton, his coach, rightly points out that penalties are part of the game, there’s no denying that Igbinosun’s style often puts him at risk of getting flagged.

That’s why I believe a move to safety, potentially alongside Caleb Downs, could be a game-changer for him and the team. His aggression and physicality could shine in a role that allows him to read plays and attack downhill, rather than relying on man-to-man coverage that exposes him to penalties. Safety would also give him the freedom to use his competitive edge without being as vulnerable to penalty calls.

What do you think? Would moving Igbinosun to safety unlock his full potential, or should the Buckeyes stick with him as a cornerback and trust that he can clean up the penalties?
