In 2024, Marcedes Lewis of the Chicago Bears was the oldest tight end in the NFL at age 40. It’s a tough job, but sometimes “old man strength” converts to longevity.
I know a lot of people don’t like him, but let’s leave personal and political opinions out of this and consider Lebron James.
LeBron James, avowed OSU Stan and legendary Ohioan, is also 40 currently. The night before I wrote this post he had a dunk in the NBA that made SC10. He’s played a long time for a number of reasons, sure. Number one is because he can, and he is still one of the best athletes in the world and one of the best basketball players as well. Two, we all know he wants to be great, which means setting records and trying to be the GOAT (more on this later). Three, he wanted to play with his son, and he has.
But Bronny was going to be an NBA charity case before his heart condition that surfaced at USC. However, his middle child Bryce looks like a legit legit NBA prospect, and could hit the NBA in 2025 if it pans out. I wish Bryce the best.
However… if it doesn’t, and LBJ still has it athletically (remember, he’s only taken NBA hits since HS, which are more than most of us but nowhere near FB) …
Would you vote yes or no for Lebron to be a red zone tight end for our Buckeyes? With how he has a sports brain I think he could learn the relevant parts of the playbook more than enough. The benefit: Put JJ, Chris Henry Jr., and LeBron as the go-get-it-high people. Lebron would not be taking NFL level hits so I think his effort is higher, but also consider the GOAT thing: Jordan failed at baseball, even in the minors. No, nobody on team-Jordan is going to sway to LBJ over Jordan if he wins a natty at OSU, but if Lebron plays competitively at twice the age of his opposition I can see him wanting that extra wrinkle in his smile when they talk.
So what do you guys think? IF (big if) LBJ wanted to join the Buckeyes Football in 2026, would you want it?
