ok--calling all OSU fans who also are beyond 4th grade math--probably about to be embarrassed but I'm stumped (glad this is an anonymous forum)
Winsipedia (https://www.winsipedia.com/ranking/all-time-records) shows Ohio State with the all-time best winning percentage among all NCAAF schools at 0.735 (978-335-53). How the heck are they figuring this?
- 978+335+53=1366 total games
- based on wins as a percent of the total games? No! (978/1366=0.716 (not 0.735))
- based on wins as a percent of the non-tie games? Nope! (978/(1366-53)=0.745 not 0.735)
- based on non-losses (including ties as "wins"(!!??)? Nyet! (978+53)/1366=0.755 not 0.735)
- not including vacated wins? (hmm-don't remember which were vacated & our win percentage)
- fyi--978/.735=1330.6 (where are the other 35.4 games?)
- the other teams all have similar problems--wins/total games doesn't match stated percentages
