From what I understand, programs are allowed a maximum of 15 spring practices, 20 hours per week, in a 5 week period.
In years past, Ohio State has typically had an "off week" at some point in the spring football schedule, but this yr the Bucks are opting for 4 straight weeks of practice, & condensing the spring calendar to the shortest window possible.. I'm sure they have their reasons (most notably the long run to the Natty & late end to the season last yr).
However, I'd proably always advocate for the longer spring window (5 weeks) for very specific reasons.
1. A chance to decompress, then absorb & apply the skills & knowledge gained during camp.
2. And most importantly: give players a chance to heal any nicks, bruises, and nagging injuries that occur during camp.
I'd probably have the "off week" after the 3rd week, week 4 would be rest, recover, absorb, then comeback fresh for week 5. This would give the coaches & players a chance to finish Spring Camp strong with a healthy roster giving good looks, rather than guys that are banged up or gassed, just trying to survive and make it through camp.
As it stands, there's no opportunity for a guy to nurse an ankle, or hamstring for a week without sitting out and feeling like he's getting passed by.
Just my opinion, feel free to agree or disagree. What would be your preferred spring practice schedule?
