Some of you might have seen my Meyer V Day Recruiting Series for each side of the ball. It got me interested in trying to create Offense/Defense Recruiting Scores similar to the overall 247 Team Recruiting Score. I got recruiting data for Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida, USC, Oregon, Michigan, Notre Dame, Clemson, Oklahoma, LSU, Penn St., Clemson, Auburn, Ole Miss, Florida State, Tennessee and Miami from 2012-2022. I found this Reddit post really helpful as it gave me an equation to work off of. I just changed the sigma (the standard deviation) from 9 to 2.5 so the equation worked for just offense/defense recruits. I split each recruiting class into an offense and defense section (ignoring ATH recruits, Special Team recruits, and recruits with no composite recruiting score). The standard deviation of offense class size amongst these teams was 2.4117, and the standard deviation of defense class size amongst these teams was 2.8542. Averaging this out gave me roughly 2.6 so I just rounded down to 2.5 since the original sigma used by 247 was a rounded 9. I know this isn't mathematially sound but I think it's good enough for this post for now lol. After deciding sigma as 2.5, I calculated Offense/Defense Recruiting Scores for each team. Below is a rough breakdown showing how the Offense/Defense Recruiting Score was calculated for the 2022 Ohio State recruiting class specifically.

Greatest Offense/Defense Recruiting Classes in Recent History
I got curious wondering what the best offense and defense recruiting classes of recent history were. Even with Texas's recent momentum, Ohio State and Notre Dame are solely jockeying for the best class in the 2023 year currently (seemigly trading first place wth their respective commitments). However, we can see that all Alabama might need is some time as they are top 3 in every average recruit rating category. Georgia is another team whose average rating stats pop off the page to me. Should be a fun race for the best class this year :)
I'd love to know everyone's thoughts on the results! It was a lot of copy pasting so I apologize if I got any of the numbers wrong.
