Many fans who follow recruiting are frustrated by the bias shown towards certain positions. The sheer quantity of WR and QB in the top players makes it difficult to analyze how OG and TE recruiting is going. To remedy this, I went through and looked at each OSU commit over the last three years and assigned them a positionally adjusted ranking. For example, each team plays 1 QB and 1 RB, so each player's rank in these positions is just their position ranking. Most teams play 2 CB and 2 OT, so the top 2 CB are position rank 1, the next 2 are two, and the next two are three. Ditto for teams playing 3 interior linemen. Without further adu, here are my position rankings for the last three classes:

1) DE: 1, 1, 3, 3, 7, 7, 9 (Average team starts 2 DE)

2) WR: 1, 2, 2, 4, 4, 6, 7, 11, 16 (Average team plays 2.5 WR)

3) LB: 1, 3, 3, 8 (Average team plays 3 LB- but some are 3-4 defenses, and some are 4-2-5)

4) IOL: 1, 3, 4, 5 (Av. 3 IOL)

5) CB: 2, 3, 4, 9, 12, 19 (Av. 2 S)

6) RB: 1, 7, 24 (Av. 1 RB)

7) TE: 2, 7, 8 (Av. 1.5 TE)

8) QB: 6, 8, 15 (Av. 1 QB; with the exception of that team up north)

9) DT: 4, 9, 10, 16, 18 (Av. 2 DT)

10) S: 1, 6, 12, 15, 18 (Av. 2 S)

11) OT: 5, 5, 10, 11, 17 (Av. 2 OT)

• A couple of points of analysis after compiling the data:
  • 1: OSU should have a really good front 7 these next several years: we have recruited fantastically at DE and LB. I think that our DT are better than my own rankings indicate.
  • OSU has not recruited nearly as well at QB these last several years as many fans give them credit for.
  • Because IOL are generally severely under-ranked, fans don't give OSU nearly enough credit for how well we have recruited there in the last several years. 
  • We also have recruited really, really well at CB.
  • S has been a disaster. We have only gotten 1 Top recruit in the last three classes. We need to hit here in 2024.
  • OT should be weak for several years. Do not expect the stress we are feeling about this position to dissipate after this season.
