This could include conference realignment, franchise moves, owners, expansions, nicknames, playoff formats…anything but game or championship outcomes.
In no particular order for me:
1. The baseball Giants and Dodgers remain in NYC. While the rivalry continued in strength out west, NL baseball has never been the same in the big apple and the three-way rivalries with interleague play would have been great.
2. The Rose Bowl gets elevated in the 90s to be the college football NCG each year on New Year’s Day with other premier bowls alternating as the semifinals pre-Christmas.
3. College football forms a governing body in the mid 90s and solidifies conferences of 10 or 11 members and common scheduling practices.
4. MLB would have maintained a 154-game season.
5. March Madness would always be 64 teams.
6. The North Stars either remain in Minnesota or leave behind the name for a successor. Same for the Colts (Baltimore) and Oilers (Houston).
7. The Browns never move. The rivalry that is Ravens - Steelers would have remained Browns - Steelers. Maybe the better suggestion is “Moddell never gets ownership of the Browns”
8. Tiger Stadium in Detroit gets refurbished and remains operational today.
9. Bowl participants are capped to the top 40 teams. Being selected means something more than being fodder for ESPN’s wallet.
10. NIL is launched with contractual stipulations are clear guidelines.
