Ohio State sports have not cooled down after starting the new year off hot. This week, the Buckeyes toppled the giant that is Penn State men's ice hockey, continued to show their volleyball dominance, and impressed all throughout the rest of the athletic program.

Men's Ice Hockey

No. 11 Ohio State entered a tough two-game set in Pennsylvania against top-ranked Penn State on Jan. 20 and 21, and they did not disappoint.

On Friday, Jan. 20, the Buckeyes tied Penn State 3-3, helped by 56 saves from senior goalie Christian Frey and two goals from sophomore forward Mason Jobst, including this one to tie the game in the third period.

Senior defender Josh Healey also added a goal on Friday, his third of the season.

On Saturday, the Buckeyes were relentless as they throttled the Nittany Lions to the tune of a 6-3 victory which included 41 saves from Frey, and goals from six different Buckeyes on the night. Three of those goals were scored in the third period to ensure Ohio State's impressive victory on the road.

This goal from junior forward Christian Lampasso concluded the scoring for the night, as the Buckeyes downed Penn State. They will assuredly move up in the rankings after a very impressive road win over an extremely talented Penn State squad.

Men's Volleyball

The top-ranked Buckeyes added another impressive victory to their resume, beating Saint Francis University in three sets to extend their winning streak to 29 straight, and their record to 6-0 on the season.

Senior Miles Johnson led the squad with 13 points, including 11 kills, on the day, while reigning AVCA player of the year had a strong day with 9 kills of his own to help the squad sweep the Red Flash.

The men's team matched the women with two sweeps of their own, 7-0 over Toledo and 4-0 over Cleveland State.

Women's Ice Hockey

While the men's team took on top-ranked Penn State in State Park, the women's team traveled to take on No. 4 Minnesota.

The Buckeyes dropped the first matchup on Jan. 20 2-1, with their lone goal coming from junior forward Julianna Iafallo.

In their Jan. 21 matchup, the Buckeyes held the Golden Gophers to only one goal, but only mustered one goal, which came from senior forward Katie Matheny, in regulation and overtime themselves, sending the game to a shootout.

The game ended in that 1-1 tie, but the Buckeyes beat Minnesota 2-1 in the shootout to make up some ground in the Big Ten.

Track & Field

Three Buckeyes took home individual titles at the Auburn Invitational on Jan. 21, including senior sprinter Aaliyah Barnes running a 23.66 in the 200-meter dash, a mark good for No. 8 in the NCAA this season.

In the 3,000m run, junior Christine Frederick ran a 9:40.46 to capture a victory as well as a personal best for the season.

Junior Cole Gorski also had a monumental day pole vaulting, as he cleared 5.20m en route the the third-best mark in Ohio State Track & Field program history.
