Ohio State men's volleyball team won 42 matches in a row—a streak stretching back to February 2016. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end.
And so it did, Saturday night in St. John Arena, with athletic director Gene Smith in attendance, when the Buckeyes faced the highest ranked team they faced in a month, No. 6 UC-Irvine, and lost 3-0.
The Anteaters started quick and didn't look back. They won the first set, 28-26. It was the only the second opening set dropped by the Buckeyes all year.
Irvine proved it was no fluke in the second set, winning 25-19 and putting Ohio State down 2-0 for the first time all year.
After a 9-9 tie in the decisive third set, UC-Irvine put Ohio State to the sword, finishing the Buckeyes off, 25-20 for the sweep.
