2025 cornerback Jordyn Woods flips from Cincinnati and commits to Ohio State.
Welcome to Saturday Spotlight, where we dive into the lives of Ohio State student-athletes and learn more about their journeys to Columbus, their love of the Buckeye traditions and who they are as competitors and students.
Asia Doss has been a mainstay in the Ohio State lineup for four years. In fact, she has never missed a game in her college career. With 800 points and well over 300 assists, Doss' contributions have allowed the Buckeyes to reach the Sweet 16 each of the last two years.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Doss' journey to Columbus was a simple one. We explore that, and much more in this week's Saturday Spotlight.
When did you realize you had a chance to play basketball at the collegiate level?
Asia Doss: When I was playing AAU in about I would say the 7th or 8th grade. I don’t honestly remember which school contacted me first, but I remember I had mail from UNC one time for a camp and I went, “Oh wait, I might actually go to college for this“.
What drew you to Ohio State outside of basketball?
AD: Off the court, I want to be a civil engineer, and Ohio State has one of the top undergrad engineering programs. The connections you can make at Ohio State were big. I knew that would help me in the long run. It was between [Ohio State], Purdue, and Illinois and I knew that this would be the best pick on and off the court.
What is your favorite basketball moment?
AD: For sure it was when we won the Big Ten Championship and got rings. I want to get more rings and make it as far in the tournament as possible, like, the Final Four.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
AD: I would have to say the Oval. Its just cool because I have two dogs of my own and the stuff that people do on the Oval with and without their dogs is crazy. I don't like it when its the 'Oval Beach' but other than that its fine.
What is your favorite Ohio State tradition?
AD: Well, I don't really tailgate much. What was cool to me was Skull Session or the volleyball games in St. John. We have recruits come all the time and we always take them there.
What has been your most embarrassing moment on the court?
AD: Last year… someone tripped and fell and I backpedaled and tumbled over her and the crowd was like "ooooh." The coaches didn’t even tell me she was on the floor so I just tripped right over her.
What is something that not a lot of people know about you?
AD: I like to laugh a lot, but everybody knows that. I like deep thinking. It takes me a while to do it, but I randomly take something so small and make it large. I’m in to the details.
What is your favorite breakfast food?
AD: Sausage, egg, and cheese on a croissant. Did I say egg? I meant no egg.
You can catch Asia and the Ohio State women's basketball team in action Monday when they face No. 14 Maryland. She's worth a follow on Twitter, too.
