Ohio State excellence is not exclusive to the football field or the basketball court. Around the Oval is our way of keeping you informed of the amazing things happening with the other 34 varsity sports on campus.

Liz Li Wins Third Big Ten Title in 50 Freestyle

Senior All-American swimmer Liz Li of Shenyang, China won her third 50 freestyle title at the Women's Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday. Li clocked a 21.28, breaking her previous school record by 0.01 seconds.

Li added to her medal collection with golds in the 100 butterfly and the 100 free. She is only the fourth Buckeye to win three individual events at a single Big Ten Championship meet.

Li also helped teammates claim the 200 freestyle relay title. The group set the Big Ten meet record with a time of 1:27.08.

Ohio State finished third overall behind Michigan and Indiana. Li, senior Meg Bailey, junior Maria Coy, freshman Freya Rayner and senior Macie McNichols all finished with First Team Big Ten honors for winning events.

Men's Tennis Beats Third Ranked UNC

The second-ranked men's tennis team achieved their biggest win of the season with a 4-3 triumph over third-ranked North Carolina on Sunday. After going down early, the team battled back to secure the win in the consolation round of the ITA Indoor Championships in Seattle.

The Buckeyes started the weekend strong, sweeping 20th-ranked Duke in the first round. On Saturday, however, seventh-ranked UCLA snapped the Buckeye's win-streak by a margin of four courts to one. There was a silver lining in the loss, however, with senior Mikael Torpegaard picking up his biggest individual win yet against the nation's top-ranked Martin Redlicki. Torpegaard won in straight sets.

The team will next play at Notre Dame.

Softball Crushes Louisville

The softball team shoutout Louisville 4-0 on Sunday, capping a strong run at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Buckeyes ended the weekend 3-1, improving to 8-1 on the season. Their sole loss was a close 5-4 stumble against North Carolina State on Friday.

Junior Emily Clark led the team this weekend batting .364 with four hits, five runs, two home runs, and two RBIs.

The team will head to Austin next weekend for the Texas Invitational.
