Women's Volleyball Concludes 2018 Season
The Ohio State women's volleyball team dropped its final match in a 5 set heartbreaker on Saturday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. However, the Buckeyes were able to start the match off strong in the first set. Trailing 21-20 late, Ohio State was forced to call a timeout. That turned out to be a great decision, as the Buckeyes were able to rally and tie the set at 24-all, eventually winning the set 26-24.
The next two sets were all Iowa. The second set was close late, but the Hawkeyes managed to steal the set 26-24. Iowa managed to win the third set much more handily by a score of 25-19. It seemed as if Iowa was going to take the fourth set as well after jumping out to a five point lead. However, the Buckeyes would rally and take the lead 11-9. The Hawkeyes would never recover, and Ohio State would take the set 25-18. In the fifth and final set, Iowa would jump out to a 6-2 lead. The Buckeyes would battle back, taking a 14-12 lead. Just when it seemed as if the Buckeyes would take the set, Iowa rallied to win the set and the game, 16-14.
Unfortunately, that loss concludes the Ohio State women's volleyball 2018 season. The Buckeyes finished with a 12-20 overall record and a 3-17 record in the Big Ten.
Women's Basketball Prepares to Take on the Tar Heels
After suffering cancellations last weekend due to the California wildfires, Ohio State women's basketball will look forward to hosting the North Carolina Tar Heels this Thursday in Columbus. The Tar Heels have been in good form so far, boasting a 5-2 record with losses to Colorado and Kentucky and a victory over No. 17 South Florida.
One has to wonder if Ohio State's extended break may come back to haunt them. After all, by the time these two teams take the court, it will have been 18 days since the Buckeyes have played a game. While the team likely appreciates the rest, it is still early in the season and teams are still meshing and finding their identity. Hopefully, Ohio State will be able to take care of business. Tip off is at 7:00 p.m. at Value City Arena.
