The overwhelming majority of the focus of any fall weekend in Columbus is on Ohio State's football team. But this particular weekend is pretty important for the Buckeyes' basketball program, as well.
That's because five-star guard Kobi Simmons — the 18th-ranked player and third-rated combo guard in the 2016 class, according to 247Sports — is scheduled to officially visit Ohio State this weekend.
Buckeyes coach Thad Matta and Co. will have the full-court press on the talented 6-foot-5 guard hailing from Alpharetta, Ga., and they'll need it, too. Simmons is also heavily considering Kentucky and UNLV in addition to the Buckeyes. He's already visited both Lexington and Las Vegas, and Columbus is scheduled to be his last official visit before making a decision.
Originally, Simmons planned to announce his college choice right after his visit to Ohio State. However, according to Cats Illustrated, Simmons has opted to push his decision date back.
The Buckeyes already have a pair of commitments in the 2016 class with a pair of big men: Derek Funderburk and Micah Potter. Ohio State is already at the allotted 13 scholarships for 2016 with those two commitments, so that would mean a change would be coming should the Buckeyes land a commitment from Simmons.
