Trevor Thompson’s appeal to play immediately for Thad Matta and Ohio State has been been denied, a source close to the team confirmed to Eleven Warriors Sunday.
Thompson, a sophomore transfer from Virginia Tech who filed a hardship waiver with the NCAA last spring, will have to wait until the 2015-16 season to help give the Buckeyes a much-needed inside presence.
The 6-foot-11 center tweeted this last night:
Not being able to play this year is going to be tough but it just adds more fuel to my fire to becoming the best basketball player I can be.

An Ohio State spokesman did not immediately respond to request for comment.
