Having started its Big Ten slate 0-4, Ohio State absolutely needed a win. Sophomore guard JaQuan Lyle did everything he could to make that happen, pouring in 22 points, six assists and a career-high five three-pointers to lead the Buckeyes to a 72-67 victory over Michigan State on Sunday afternoon.
The game was tied at 56-all with just over eight minutes remaining, but Lyle added five quick points to push Ohio State into the lead. A three-pointer by Jae'Sean Tate and a layup by Trevor Thompson capped a 10-0 run by the Buckeyes that put them ahead for good.
Tate and senior Marc Loving each scored 12 points, while Thompson and Kam Williams chipped in 10 points apiece.
Miles Bridges paced Michigan State with 24 points and eight rebounds, but turned the ball over six times. He was the only Spartan in double figures.
Ohio State will be back in action on Wednesday at Nebraska. Tip off is scheduled for 9 p.m. on BTN.
