Trevor Thompson took a lot of flack for testing the NBA water this offseason. But in returning to school for his junior year, he's seemingly become the cog that makes the Ohio State offense come to life.
Thompson poured in a career-high 19 points and snatched 10 rebounds to help the Buckeyes hold on against Minnesota, 78-72, on Wednesday night.
Ohio State led by 10 with just under eight minutes to play when Minnesota went on a 10-2 run to make it a one-possession game at the final media timeout. But the Gophers were unable to pull ahead, as Marc Loving nailed a three-pointer at the one minute mark and Thompson added a pair of blocks to seal the win for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State moves to 13-8 overall, 3-5 in Big Ten play with the win. The Buckeyes will be back in action on Saturday at Iowa. Tip off is set for 8 p.m. on ESPN2.
