Kam Williams tied a career-high with 23 points while Trevor Thompson added 15 points and 12 rebounds to help Ohio State withstand a scrappy effort from upset-minded Rutgers on Wednesday night, 70-64.
With the game tied at 62, Williams connected on a three-pointer while getting fouled. His four-point play put the Buckeyes ahead for good, and free throws by Marc Loving and C.J. Jackson in the final 30 seconds put it out of reach.
Rutgers trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half, but made a run late behind 17 points from Corey Sanders. Mike Williams added 11 points for the Scarlet Knights, while Issa Theim and Deshawn Freeman had 10 apiece.
Ohio State will be back in action on Saturday at Maryland. Tip off is scheduled for 4 p.m. on ESPN.
