Syracuse joins a list of non-conference opponents for the 2018-19 Buckeyes that also include a home game against Bucknell, road games against Creighton (Gavitt Games) and Cincinnati and a neutral-site game against UCLA at the CBS Sports Classic in Chicago, among games that have already been announced.
2018 will be the second consecutive year that the Buckeyes get to play on their home court in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, as they hosted Clemson at Value City Arena last season. The Buckeyes, who suffered a 79-65 loss to Clemson last year, will be looking for their first win in the challenge since 2013, when they defeated Maryland (then an ACC school), 76-60.
Ohio State, entering its second season coached by Chris Holtmann, will be looking for continued progress after making the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. Syracuse, entering its 43rd season coached by Jim Boeheim, is coming off a Sweet 16 run in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Other notable matchups in this year's ACC/Big Ten Challenge, which can be seen on the Big Ten's website, include Indiana at Duke, North Carolina at Michigan and Michigan State at Louisville, among others.
This year's matchup will be the first-ever matchup between Ohio State and Syracuse in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, and the seventh matchup between the two schools all-time. The Buckeyes are 5-1 all-time against Syracuse, with their most recent matchup coming in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, when the Buckeyes earned a 77-70 win over the Orange in the Elite Eight.
