Winning With Defense
Ohio State entered the NCAA Tournament with one of the worst defenses in the entire tournament field, rated just 131st nationally in the KenPom ratings. But the Buckeyes played their best defensive game of the season on Friday afternoon.
- Loyola shot just 27% from the field, by far its lowest all season
- Ohio State forced 14 Rambler turnovers
- Loyola scored just 41 points, by far its lowest mark of the season and the fewest points the Buckeyes have allowed in an NCAA Tournament game since 1946.
Ohio State Beats Loyola, Advances to Second Round
The Buckeyes got it done in the first round, beating No. 10 seed Loyola 54-41 behind a stellar defensive effort. Ohio State advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019 and will face No. 2 seed Villanova on Sunday.
Zed Key and Kyle Young Both Available
Zed Key and Kyle Young will both be available for Ohio State's NCAA Tournament first-round showdown with Loyola. Both players were expected to be game-time decisions and were limited in practice on Thursday, only participating in static shooting drills.
No. 15 Seed Saint Peters to the Sweet 16
Saint Peters will continue its Cinderella run into the Sweet 16 as the Peacocks beat No. 7 seed Murray State to advance to next weekend's game. Saint Peters becomes just the third No. 15 seed ever to make the Sweet 16 joining Florida Gulf Coast in 2013 and Oral Roberts last season.
No. 15 Seed Saint Peters Stuns Kentucky
For the second-straight year, a No. 2 seed has fallen to a No. 15 seed as Saint Peters dropped Kentucky 85-79 to advance to the round of 32. Ohio State fans are all too familiar with the last time this happened.
To put the disparity between Kentucky and St. Peters in perspective, Kentucky has four *assistant* coaches who make more than St. Peters head coach Shaheen Holloway. Hes thought to make around $250,000 (private school). UKs assistants range from $850,000 to $300,000.
