Important dates are approaching for the latest edition of The Basketball Tournament.
TBT is slated to announce its regional brackets on Wednesday, with Ohio State alumni team Carmen's Crew – which took a year off from competition last summer – set to compete in Dayton.
Still coached by Jared Sullinger, Carmen's Crew will feature a refurbished roster upon returning to action in 2023. Gone are several key members of the previous iteration, including Aaron Craft, David Lighty and Jon Diebler, which took home the $2 million first-place prize for winning the tournament in 2019.
According to a report from The Columbus Dispatch, Kyle Young will make his TBT debut for Carmen's Crew this year, joining forces with former Ohio State teammates Kaleb and Andre Wesson, Keyshawn Woods and C.J. Jackson. Each of those players spent most (if not all) of their Ohio State careers under head coach Chris Holtmann, but Thad Matta-era Buckeyes William Buford and Trevor Thompson will also play for Carmen's Crew in 2023.
Buford, the MVP of the 2019 tournament, is the most notable holdover from the past several Carmen's Crew rosters.
The new team will also include multiple players who didn't play college basketball at Ohio State. Pickerington native and Northern Kentucky/Arkansas forward Jalen Tate is on the roster, along with Gahanna's Javon Bess (Michigan State/Saint Louis), Senegalese big man Malik Dime (Indian Hills Community College/Washington) and Delaware's Scott Thomas (Bowling Green).
Carmen's Crew was last seen getting bounced from the regional final on Ohio State's campus in Columbus in 2021 but will look to make a deeper run with a retooled lineup this summer.
