“Dave Dickerson is a respected, veteran coach and I am excited that he is rejoining the Ohio State family,” Diebler said in a statement. “He was not only a part of some of the most successful teams in Ohio State history, but he also brings head coaching experience that will be invaluable as we continue to take the next step as a program.”
The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman initially reported that Dickerson would be Ohio State’s associate head coach, though Ohio State’s announcement does not include a specific title for Dickerson.
Dickerson has been the head coach at USC Upstate since 2018. He was previously the head coach at Tulane from 2005-10, giving Diebler – a first-time head coach – a veteran assistant with more than a decade of head coaching experience.
In between those head coaching jobs, Dickerson was Ohio State’s associate head coach for Thad Matta’s final seven years leading the Buckeyes, helping lead the Buckeyes to five NCAA Tournaments including a Final Four, two Elite Eights and three Sweet 16s. Diebler and Dickerson previously worked together when Diebler was Ohio State’s video coordinator from 2013-16.
A native of Olar, South Carolina, Dickerson played for Maryland from 1985-89.
