Accidents happen. Mistakes happen. However, errors of the avoidable and self-inflicted variety still sting more than others.

The Eleven Dubcast expressed cautionary optimism in Jake Diebler a year ago, but still maintained at the time that Dusty May would be the best hire for the long-term health of the Ohio State men's basketball program. Last month, while some bracketologists claimed the Buckeyes had somewhere in the realm of an 85% chance to make the NCAA Tournament, Johnny and I preached concern that a team marked by inconsistency might not even make the dance as a bubble team.

Make no mistake, we yield no joy in these correct predictions. Michigan has now won the Big Ten Tournament thanks to May falling into the Wolverines' lap one year after their team finished with a 3-17 record in conference play. Ohio State lost in the first round of the same tournament and has now missed March Madness three dances in a row for the first time in two decades.

On this week's episode, we consider where Buckeye basketball goes from here. Johnny and I also weigh the positives and negatives of Diebler's ability to manage the program ahead of a pivotal offseason for his tenure.

Additionally, the Dubcast discussion also covers:

  • Spring practice looms for the football team, but many shoes must be filled within several position groups for a successful title defense. How crucial will Carlos Locklyn be to the development of James Peoples?
  • Many folks called Max Klare the best tight end in the conference last season. Should Buckeye fans expect him to be used to his strengths given the role the position has typically played in a Ryan Day offense?
  • Ask Us Anything — writers to dubcast@elevenwarriors.com this week inquired about many topics, such as which former Buckeye that has not yet ventured into athletic instruction would make the best football coach?
  • Johnny attended the women's hockey win over St. Lawrence this past weekend. What can Buckeye fans expect ahead of yet another Frozen Four appearance and when will the ladies get a rink befitting of their excellence?
  • The Emil Milev Dynasty for Ohio State Pistol continues with a fifth straight national championship.

And that does it for the Dubcast this week! Watch the show now on YouTube above, listen via the mini player below or visit our Transistor page for links to other listening options such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and more.
