Ohio State lands the nation's No. 1 safety in the 2026 class as Blaine Bradford commits to the Buckeyes.
Evan Mahaffey isn't traveling far to finish his college basketball career.
The former Ohio State wing committed to Akron out of the transfer portal on Friday and will spend his final year of eligibility with the Zips in 2025-26.

Mahaffey started his career at Penn State before transferring to Ohio State ahead of the 2023-24 season, when he was the Buckeyes' starting small forward. Playing 22.1 minutes per game, he picked up 4.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, one steal and 0.7 blocks a contest.
As Micah Parrish came in from San Diego State and started at small forward in a three-guard lineup for Ohio State in 2024-25, Mahaffey stepped back into a role off the bench and played just 18 minutes per game. He averaged 3.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.9 blocks and 0.7 steals in that time.
Mahaffey is one of three Buckeyes to have entered the portal so far, joining center Austin Parks and guard Meechie Johnson Jr. Ohio State will look to add at least two more transfers alongside guard Gabe Cupps, whom it already acquired from Indiana.
